Excursions  / Corfu Island

On the island of Corfu there is a lot to explore and to discover.

I want to introduce you some interesting destinations. Most of them you can find in some good travel books.

Angelokastro is the ruins of an old castle, not far away from Liapades. You drive from Liapades to Paleokastritsa. There you turn to the right to the village Lakones. After this village you should make a stop at Bella Vista for a beautiful panorama view to the beautiful beaches and landscape. The next village is Makrades. Here you can buy a lot of herbs, olive oil, local wine and other typical corfiot products. After the entrance of the village you drive left with your car until the foot of the hill, where the ruins are.

Walk until the top of the hill and enjoy the wonderful view and the peaceful atmosphere.

In Paleokastritsa stands one of the nicest monasteries of the island. You can reach it by car after having driven the main street of Paleo.

The traffic light before the drive to the cloister hill has a long red phase. Turn the engine of your car off.

Sidari is one of nicest places of the island. In the summer there are a lot of German and British tourists, many more than the local population. It is worth to make an excursion to the north west coast beaches.

Here you find many small, lonely and quiet beaches with wild cliff formations. You should also visit the lonesome beaches of Peroulades.

A tale says about "Canal d" amour, that those women, who will swim through it, will find the man of their life during a year.

At the south of Corfu town you find the Achillio. This wonderful villa was the sanctuary and summer residence of famous Austrian empress Sissi. Today the villa is one of the main tourist attractions of Corfu, with its beautiful gardens, great view and impressive statues for visiting.
